Our History

The Biblical Foundation

The city of Thessaloniki (ancient Thessalonica) holds a unique place in Christian history. It was here, during the Apostle Paul’s second missionary journey around AD 50, that one of the earliest Christian churches was established. Paul, accompanied by Silas and Timothy, preached the gospel in the Jewish synagogue for three Sabbaths, reasoning from the Scriptures that Jesus was the promised Messiah. Though Paul’s time in the city was brief due to persecution, a strong church was born—one that became a model of faith throughout Macedonia and Achaia.

Paul’s letters to the Thessalonians, among the earliest New Testament writings, reveal a church characterized by faith, love, and hope. Despite facing affliction, these believers received the Word with joy and became imitators of Paul and of the Lord. Their testimony spread throughout the region, and they eagerly awaited Christ’s return. This rich biblical heritage provides both inspiration and instruction for believers gathering in Thessaloniki today.

“For from you sounded out the word of the Lord not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith to God-ward is spread abroad; so that we need not to speak any thing.” — 1 Thessalonians 1:8

A Modern Beginning

Bible Baptist Church of Thessaloniki was established in 2012 to continue the legacy of biblical Christianity in this historic city. Founded on the principles of New Testament church order and conservative Baptist doctrine, the church was organized to serve the community in Thessaloniki.

From its inception, the church has been committed to the supreme authority of Scripture, the proclamation of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ alone, and the autonomy of the local church. As an independent Baptist church, we maintain no denominational affiliation, recognizing Christ as the sole Head of His church and the Bible as our only rule for faith and practice.

Looking Forward

While we honor the past, we look with anticipation to the future. We are committed to faithful Bible teaching, fervent prayer, warm Christian fellowship, and bold evangelism. We welcome all who desire to worship God according to His Word and grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Like the early Thessalonians, we live in expectation of Christ’s return. Until that glorious day, we are committed to serving Him faithfully in this historic city, proclaiming that same gospel that transformed Thessaloniki two thousand years ago—the gospel that still has power to save today.

“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.” — 1 Corinthians 15:58

To God be the glory!
